1. 2. The school was founded in 1946, and its birth has a direct historical relationship with Northeastern University. At the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War, Northeastern University moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Northeastern University moved back to Shenyang, and the teachers and students who stayed in Sichuan established the North Sichuan Agricultural and Industrial College on the original site.

In 1949, it absorbed Xishan Academy and changed its name to North Sichuan University; In 1950, it merged with North Sichuan College of Literature and moved to Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. In 1952, North Sichuan University merged some majors of East Sichuan College of Education, Sichuan University and West China University to form Sichuan Normal University. In 1956, the school was divided into two, and the part left in Nanchong was renamed Nanchong Normal College, upgraded to Nanchong Normal College in 1958, restored the name of "Sichuan Normal University" in 1989, and renamed China West Normal University in 2003.
