CCS - Carbon Capture and Storage.
CCS refers to the technology of collecting carbon dioxide produced by fossil fuels and storing it in various ways to prevent it from entering the atmosphere.
Means: capture ->transport ->storage sequestration.
Among them, storage and storage storage technology can be divided into:
1) Geological storage.
The direct injection of carbon dioxide into geological construction in the form of supercritical (such as oil and gas fields, saline water layers, unformed coal seams, etc.) requires geological construction to have oil and gas structural conditions such as "storage, capping, ring, transportation, and protection".
2) Ocean Storage.
When carbon dioxide is injected into seawater at a depth of 1 3 km, the carbon dioxide solute forms a plume and dissolves in seawater. When driven to a depth of less than 3 km, carbon dioxide liquefies under high pressure to form a plume, which is denser than seawater, and accumulates into a "lake" on the seabed. Another is a solid hydrate that allows carbon dioxide and carbonate minerals to be combined into soluble bicarbonate or deposited on the ocean floor.
3) Mineral Storage.
That is, carbon dioxide reacts with metal oxides in the earth's crust to form stable carbonates, which can artificially accelerate the reaction rate (high temperature and high pressure catalysis). This technology requires additional energy, but the IPCC considers power plants with CCS equipment to consume 60,180 per cent of the energy that is not installed.
One of the follow-up issues that CCS needs to address is that if storage conditions are unfavorable, it can cause serious environmental disasters, such as carbon dioxide leakage, acidification of seawater, etc. In 1986, more than 1,700 villagers were suffocated by a carbon dioxide leak caused by the eruption of a mountain in Cameroon.
