The National Aquatics Center is located in the Beijing Olympic Park, one of the landmark buildings of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It and the National Stadium are located on both sides of the north end of Beijing's central axis, forming a relatively complete image of Beijing's historical and cultural city. The planned construction land of the National Aquatics Center is 62,950 square meters, with a total construction area of 65,000-80,000 square meters, of which the underground part of the construction area is not less than 15,000 square meters.
On December 24, 2003, the construction of the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) and the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) started at the same time. After the construction of the steel-concrete structure and the construction of the outer membrane structure, today the National Aquatics Center has achieved a "panoramic appearance". Today's installation is the last of the 1,437 air pillows, this membrane material made of ETFE (tetrafluoroethylene) is light and strong, and due to its own water repellency, it can use natural rainwater to complete its own cleaning, which is an emerging environmentally friendly material.
Like a "water bubble", the ETFE film has good compression resistance, and the thickness of the ETFE film is only as thick as a piece of paper, and the air pillow composed of the ETF film can even bear the weight of a car. According to the different positions, the air pillow on the outer layer of the National Aquatics Center is distributed with uneven density plating dots on the outer film, which will effectively shield the sunlight directly into the hall, and play the role of shading and cooling. With the completion of the outer membrane structure, the installation of the inner air pillow and the interior decoration of the National Aquatics Center will continue, and the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2007.
From February 1 to 5, 2008, the Water Cube will host its first test event, the China Open Swimming Championships. This was followed by the 16th FINA World Cup Diving Championships from February 19 to 24, 2008. The synchronized swimming Olympic qualification tournament will also be held here from April 16 to 20.

The water cube covers an area of hectares.
The National Aquatics Center, commonly known as the "Water Cube" and now renamed the "Ice Cube", is located in the southern part of the central area of the Beijing Olympic Park and is the main swimming pool built by Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympics. During the Olympic Games, it is responsible for water sports such as swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo. Now, the "Water Cube" and the "Bird's Nest" have become Beijing's new landmarks.
In August 2018, it hosted the ice project of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and the renovation of the venue has preliminarily formed a residual leakage renovation plan.
The appearance of the Water Cube is like an ice crystal-shaped cube, and the shape is simple and modern. Irregular blue coarse air pillows made of more than 3,000 rotten ETFE (tetrafluoroethylene) materials cover the surface of the building. More than 10,000 steel components in different positions of the Water Cube form the space steel frame structure of Jianzhou Gentle Circle.
The interior of the venue is a six-story building with a square plan. The facilities in the museum mainly include a competition hall, a warm-up pool, a multi-purpose hall and a large water park.
