Another theory is that the shape of this lantern resembles the hat worn by Zhuge Kongming, hence the name. Modern people put Kong Ming lanterns mostly for blessings.

Men, women and children write their blessings by hand, symbolizing a successful harvest and happiness every year. Around the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, the ancestors were introduced from Hui'an, Anxi and other counties in Fujian Province on the mainland to Taipei County, Pingxi Township and Shijiliao area in Taiwan, that is, the upper reaches of the Keelung River. The structure of Kong Ming lantern can be divided into two parts: the main body is mostly made of bamboo grate, the second is made of cotton paper or paper paste into the lampshade, and the bottom bracket is composed of a grate cut from bamboo. Kong Ming lanterns can be large or small, round or rectangular. The general Kong Ming lantern is made of bamboo pieces to form a barrel shape, and the outside is densely surrounded by thin white paper with the opening facing downward.

The reason why the Kong Ming lantern "can fly" is that the fuel combustion increases the temperature of the surrounding air, decreases and rises, thereby discharging the original air in the Kong Ming lantern, making its own gravity smaller, and the buoyancy of the air to it holds it up. Whether it can take off or not is determined by the quality of the lamp and the air temperature, the temperature of the hot air and the volume of the Kong Ming lamp.
