About the 2006 World Congress of Religions

Putuo Mountain Declaration. The full text of the declaration is as follows:

We are on the same planet, enjoying the fruits of scientific and technological prosperity, but we are also facing difficulties and challenges: environmental pollution has intensified, and the gap between the rich and the poor has widened. Hurricanes and tsunamis erupted, and inexplicable epidemics were prevalent.

Conflicts and wars continue to occur, and terrorist attacks are frequent. Outside the mainstream of peace and development, there is disharmony in the world, discord among people, and uneasiness in the heart.

Peace is the eternal aspiration of mankind, and harmony is the beautiful realm pursued by mankind.

As one of the great spiritual traditions of mankind, Buddhism has been exploring the path of harmony in the world and peace of mind since the beginning of the Buddha. The way of Buddhism is endless, and the root of it is to see the nature in the clear mind and purify its mind. If everyone expands their minds, enlarges their hearts, restrains greed, hatred, and ignorance, and from individuals to families and communities and countries to the world, then the heart is pure and the land is pure, the heart is at peace with all beings, and the heart is peaceful in the world.

May we cultivate a good heart and do good deeds, so that people's hearts will be kind.

May family affection be stable and love full, and the family will be happy.

If you are willing to communicate sincerely, be equal and help each other, and be harmonious with others.

May everyone get their own place, and if they are in peace, the society will be harmonious.

If we appreciate each other, respect and tolerate each other, we will be civilized and harmonious.

If you are willing to compare your heart with your heart and turn your grievances into friends, you will have peace in the world.

Let us follow the teachings of the great Buddha and be an example of harmony, and practice the education of compassion to enlighten people's hearts and guide society. As long as everyone has the idea of harmony and goodness in their hearts, as long as the hearts of human beings are in harmony, the world will naturally prosper.

Everyone has a responsibility for a harmonious world. A harmonious world starts from the heart.

I know that there is a Mormon Church in the United States, based in Salt Lake City, and Mormons are not allowed to smoke or drink, but they can marry four wives, which is interesting.

There is no fixed mechanism of the "World Buddhist Congress"! China has the "Buddhist Association of China". Other countries have some and some don't.

However, there is a "World Buddhist Forum" in the Buddhist circles, the first of which was held in mainland China in 2006. The second session was jointly held in mainland China and Taiwan in 2009. Because although Buddhism originated in ancient India; But it really flourished in Chinese mainland (Taiwan only came to power two or three decades ago because of the decline of religion on the mainland).

China, Japan, and South Korea have an annual trilateral Buddhist exchange forum.

It's a Buddhist conference, it's hard to say, the organizer is a non-governmental organization, the first is 06, the second is last year, it is estimated that the third is at least two years later, this kind of conference, if it is held too often, it will not be interesting.

From April 13 to 18, 2006, the first World Buddhist Forum was held in Zhoushan, Zhejiang, China.

Founded in 2005 by the Buddhist circles of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, the World Buddhist Forum aims to build a high-level platform for exchanges, cooperation and dialogue among Buddhists around the world, to provide a broad stage for the Chinese Buddhist community to make great achievements, and to provide a good opportunity for cross-strait Buddhist exchanges.

First World Buddhist Forum, April l3-16, 2006. The first World Buddhist Forum, sponsored by the Buddhist Association of China and the Chinese Religious and Cultural Exchange Association and hosted by Zhejiang Province, was successfully held in Hangzhou and Zhoushan. Theme of the 1st World Buddhist Forum:

A harmonious society starts from the heart"。

The Buddha taught, benefiting himself and others, and purifying sentient beings. For more than 2,500 years, Buddhism has transcended racial and national boundaries, spread from east to west, spread from south to north, and spread throughout the world, becoming one of the three major religions in the world. In the general trend of "globalization" and economic integration in the world, we deeply feel that the world is changing with each passing day, and the trend of the times is rolling forward, and we should take the opportunity to contribute great wisdom, magnify light, and make great contributions to the overall development of the cause of Buddhism in the world and the peace and happiness of mankind.

May 17 of each year is designated as World Information Society Day.

World Information Society Day was proposed at a preparatory meeting for the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society in the second half of 2005. The proposal to establish World Information Society Day and to celebrate it annually on 17 May was unanimously supported by participants at that meeting.

The 60th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held in March 2006, adopted resolution 60 252, formally endorsing this recommendation and designating 17 May of each year as World Information Society Day.
