In the first year of Chengsheng (552), the king of Xiangdong was the emperor (Emperor Liang Yuan), Ren Zongyi was the squire of Shangshu, and the Marquis of Xin'an County (now Macheng, Hubei Province) was enthroned, and he was moved to the Ministry of Shangshu. The Wei army broke through Jiangling, and Zong Yi went to Guanzhong. In the second year of Taiping (557), Emperor Min of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Yu Wenjue, ascended the throne, and Bai Zongyi was the general of the chariot and cavalry.

Zong Yi is the fifth generation grandson after Zong Cheng and is the great-grandparent of Zong Yi. Undoubtedly, this is an anecdote passed down by word of mouth in the Zong family, and has been inherited by successive generations. The custom of hanging human-shaped Ai during the Dragon Boat Festival invented by the Zong family evolved into hanging Ai people in later generations, and the Ai people were attached to Zhang Tianshi of Taoism, which was popular all over the country.

Zong Yi's ancestral home is Nanyang Nieyang (now northeast of Deng County, Henan), during the Yongjia Rebellion in the last years of the Western Jin Dynasty, the eighth ancestor moved to Jiangling, and it was suspected that Zong Yi's generation had been more than 200 years. The Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties was a period of frequent wars and turmoil, as well as a period of great migration of ethnic groups. During this period, the convenient transportation caused a large number of cautious displaced people to move into the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and a large number of displaced people moved into the Jingchu area, especially the Jiangling area, into a prosperous area where the population gathered.
