Other IC design companies do not have their own wafer factories and choose third-party wafer factories (such as TSMC and SMIC) to tape-out, which is equivalent to buying ready-to-wear garments, which naturally have poor performance.

Finally, some CPU design schemes have requirements for the process, such as Loongson 3B, which requires tape-out in the 28nm process (there is no room for bargaining, and tape-out with a process greater than 28nm cannot meet the design requirements at all) and in this regard, due to the blockade of the United States, the domestic lag behind the foreign 2 3 generations. The wafer fab in the pure continent (I can't remember which one) seems to be able to reach 65nm. SMIC has a 40nm tape-out capability and TSMC reaches 28nm.

Finally, there are market factors. The Loongson 2E is probably at the level of the first-generation P4 Willamette core. (SPEC2000 score 503 503).

In fact, the performance is basically enough for the general office. However, because it belongs to the MIPS architecture and does not belong to the x86 architecture, it can only run the Linux system, not the Windows system. It is difficult for the majority of users to accept.

At present, there are only two mainstream computer CPUs in the world, that is, Intel and AMD, of which Intel is stronger, and the x86 architecture of the computer CPU is developed by Intel, including AMD's CPU products, which also use the X86 architecture. We also have chips with x86 architecture in China, such as Zhaoxin, but due to the pressure of Intel and AMD, Zhaoxin has always been difficult to have a voice. In addition, it is worth paying attention to the "Loongson" products independently developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is a completely pure domestic chip, and uses its own technology from architecture to design.

Many people are concerned, what is the performance of our domestic computer CPU "Loongson", and how big is the gap with Intel? According to the data provided by Loongson's official website, Loongson's most high-end consumer-grade chip product is 3A4000, which is a four-core 28nm process product, with a main frequency of 30W, 40W, and 50W respectively. If you understand the hardware parameters, you will understand that the performance of Loongson 3A4000 is still too poor, not only backward in technology, but also inferior to Intel's first-generation Core ten years ago, compared with Intel's gap is too big!

Of course, some people say, since Loongson's performance is so poor, why continue to develop it? Wouldn't it be better for us to use cheap and easy-to-use Intel and AMD? We can't just consider this matter from the top, now Huawei's mobile phone chip production is blocked, what if Intel and AMD don't give us chips in the future?
