A Lei, whose real name is Zhu Fan, formerly known as Zhu Yiwei, is a contemporary philosopher, ** family, and essayist, born in January 1909, from Lianshui County, Jiangsu. He studied at the High School Affiliated to Jinling University in Nanjing, Shanghai Lida Academy, and Tongwen Academy, and finally graduated from Shanghai University of the Arts. In 1931, he joined the Anti-Imperialist Grand League.
In 1932, he joined the "Left-wing Drama Federation", and in August of the same year, he was admitted to the Shanghai British Commercial Bus Company as a conductor, and soon joined the Communist Party of China. In 1933, he was sentenced for participating in the workers' strike**, and in 1935, he was released from prison on bail and went to Malaysia to participate in the activities of the Communist Party of Malaysia. In the summer of 1936, he returned to Shanghai and engaged in writing and translation.
At the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, he joined the New Fourth Army and has been doing cultural, educational and administrative work in the army and localities. After the liberation, he successively served as vice president of Hunan Revolutionary University, director of the Provincial Department of Culture and Education, director of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee, and president of Hunan University, and retired in 1983.
In 1936, to commemorate Lu Xun's death, Ah Lei wrote a reminiscence essay "One Side", which was first published in the semi-monthly magazine Zhongliu edited by Li Liewen, and later compiled into a middle school Chinese textbook.
