Who were the first figures in Buddhism in India?

Legend has it that after the Buddha attained enlightenment, he went to Sarnath to preach the Dharma three times for Chen Ru and other five people, and accepted these five believers, known as the five monks. Bhikshu translates as "beggar", or it is interpreted as "to break evil", "purify life", etc., but it actually refers to a person who followed the Buddha and became a monk and lived by begging, and later there were female monks, who were called "bhikshunis", or "nuns" for short. Bhikshus and bhikshunis became the classical titles of Buddhists.

A group of bhikshus or bhikshunis form a collective organization called a "sangha", or simply "sangha".
