In his early days in Panama, Rivera often played baseball with his friends, using milk cartons as gloves and twigs as bats, and although his father was a fisherman, Rivera never thought of taking on the profession, saying that the profession was "too hard". At the age of 19, Rivera gave up his job as a fisherman after his commercial boat capsized.

Mariano Rivera (born 29 November 1969), also known as Rivera, nicknamed Mo, Sandman and The Hammer of God, was a Major League Baseball terminator for the New York Yankees. On September 15, 2008, Leviera surpassed Lee Smith to become the second-most successful player in major league history. On September 20, 2011, the New York Yankees threw a perfect ninth game against the Minnesota Twins to help the Yankees hold on to a 6-4 victory over the Twins.
Leviera's 602nd rescue was successful, surpassing the former Padres' ace rescue Hoffman and rewriting the major league record. Levila is considered by many to be the greatest backup pitcher in the playoffs and one of the best finishers in baseball history, with the highest number of rescues in history, the most successful rescues and the lowest ERA in the history of the playoffs. He has won five World Series titles with the Yankees.
Rivera's most famous ball is the sharp chipping ball. He was also the last major league player to use the number 42, which commemorates Jackie Robinson's retirement after 1997.
