1. A brief history. The history of our department can be traced back to the establishment of the ** School of Arts and Crafts in 1956. In 1983, our department was formally established, initially named the Department of History and Theory of Arts and Crafts, and later renamed the Department of Art and Design with the change of the national discipline catalog.

In 2002, he obtained a doctorate in fine arts, becoming the only art history department in China to have both art design and fine arts doctoral programs.

As of 2007, the faculty of our department has won 13 provincial and ministerial awards, undertaken 4 national projects, a number of provincial and ministerial projects, and edited or presided over the compilation of 6 national textbooks. The department also accepts postdoctoral fellows, international students, and visiting scholars.

There are more than 10,000 kinds of books in Chinese and foreign languages.

For art theory-related majors, the Academy of Fine Arts is relatively better than CAFA, and Guomei and Qingmei are also good. Each of these three institutions has its own strengths.

The six art academies are Nanjing University of the Arts, Yunnan University of the Arts, Xinjiang University of the Arts, Guangxi University of the Arts, Shandong University of the Arts and Jilin University of the Arts. Nanjing University of the Arts has about 10,000 students and a total of 38 undergraduate majors, including 5 master's programs and 5 doctoral programs in first-level disciplines.

Compared with Nanjing University of the Arts, Guangxi University of Arts, Yunnan University of the Arts and Jilin University of the Arts are worse, of course, these three schools are still quite good in art theory, ** and dance, drama and film and television.
