After returning to China, with the support of the party and state leaders, Qian Xuesen took an active part in the planning and organization of China's rocket and space undertakings, and with his profound knowledge in the fields of aerodynamics, rocket engines, guidance and control, overall structure, materials and technology, computers, quality control, and systems engineering, he trained a large number of rocket and space technology personnel for China, and played a tremendous role in leading the development of missiles, carrier rockets, and spacecraft. With his participation and organization, on November 5, 1960, China successfully launched the first imitation missile; On June 29, 1964, the first self-designed missile flew successfully; On April 24, 1970, China's first artificial earth satellite was successfully launched.
In 1979, Qian Xuesen won the "Outstanding Alumni Award" of the California Institute of Technology, and in 1985, he became the first winner of the special prize for scientific and technological progress in China, and in June 1989, the International Institute of Science and Technology awarded him the highest award - the "Little Rockwell Medal", and in October 1991, the state awarded him the honorary title of "National Outstanding Contribution Scientist".

Qian Xuesen, a world-famous scientist, aerodynamicist, the founder of China's manned spaceflight, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a winner of China's two bombs and one satellite meritorious service medal, is known as the "father of China's aerospace", "the father of China's missiles", "the father of China's automation control" and "the king of rockets". In 1956, he was appointed to establish China's first rocket and missile research institute, the Fifth Research Institute of the Ministry of National Defense, and served as its first president. He presided over the completion of the "establishment of jet and rocket technology" plan, participated in the development of short-range missiles, medium- and short-range missiles, and China's first artificial earth satellite, directly led the "two-bomb combination" test of using medium- and short-range missiles to deliver atomic bombs, participated in the formulation of China's short-range missile delivery atomic bomb "two-bomb combination" test, participated in the formulation of China's first interstellar aviation development plan, and developed and established engineering cybernetics and systematics.
He has made pioneering contributions in the fields of aerodynamics, aeronautical engineering, jet propulsion, engineering cybernetics, physical mechanics and other technical sciences. He is the founder and advocate of the theory and application of modern mechanics and systems engineering in China.
