The heat required to heat this mixture diluted by exhaust gas increases by 1 degree Celsius, and the maximum combustion temperature decreases under the condition that the total amount of fuel combustion heat release remains unchanged. At the same time, the dilution effect of the exhaust gas on the fresh mixture reduces the concentration of oxygen, so that the generation of NOx is inhibited.

Excessive overlap angle will cause engine combustion instability, misfire and increase HC emissions, so it is necessary to consider the dynamics, economy and emission performance when determining the overlap angle of the gas distribution phase.
Control policy. As the EGR rate increases, combustion becomes unstable, combustion fluctuations increase, HC emissions rise, power decreases, and fuel economy tends to deteriorate. Carrying out EGR at a small load, especially at idle, will make combustion unstable, and even lead to fire, which will cause a sharp increase in HC emissions. In pursuit of maximum power at full load, the use of EGR will reduce the maximum power and impairs the power.
Therefore, it is necessary to properly control the EGR rate to achieve the best compromise of various properties under various working conditions to achieve the control goal of NOx.
The control requirements for the EGR system are as follows:
1) Since NOx emissions increase with load, the EGR should also increase with load.
2) At idle speed and low load, NOx emission concentration is low, and EGR is not performed to ensure stable combustion.
3) In the process of engine warm-up, the cooling water temperature and intake air temperature are low, the NOx emission concentration is also very low, and the mixture gas supply is uneven.
4) At high load and high speed, in order to ensure that the engine has good dynamics, although the temperature is very high, the oxygen concentration is insufficient, and the NOx emission products are less, and the EGR rate is usually not carried out or reduced.
5) In order to achieve the best effect of EGR, it is necessary to ensure that the recirculated exhaust air is evenly distributed between the cylinders, that is, to ensure that the EGR rate of each cylinder is consistent.
