December 3 is the World Day of Persons with Disabilities, also known as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
3 December is an annual event that promotes understanding of disability issues and mobilizes support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. From October 12 to 13, 1992, the 47th session of the United Nations General Assembly held its first special session on disability since the establishment of the United Nations.
There are 100 million people with disabilities in the world, accounting for about 10% of the world's total population, 80% of whom live in developing countries. Over the years, thanks to the efforts of the international community, some progress has been made in protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and building barrier-free societies around the world.
Festive impacts
The establishment of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities shows that the cause of persons with disabilities has attracted more and more attention around the world. People of different races have begun to form a consensus that the cause of the disabled is a humanitarian cause, a noble and glorious cause, and a cause of human progress and justice.
The celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities provides an opportunity to change attitudes towards persons with disabilities and to remove barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from participating fully in all aspects of life. A focus of the Day of Persons with Disabilities is to take concrete action to further implement international norms and standards relating to persons with disabilities and to encourage their participation in social life and development on an equal basis.
