Steps to taste red wine:
Step 1: Control the temperature of the wine. Traditionally, red wine is drunk at a cool room temperature of 18 to 21 degrees Celsius (9 and 12 degrees for white wines), at which all vintages are at their best.
A chilled bottle of red wine will have more pronounced tannins (the astringent substance in the wine) than a red wine at cool room temperature, and therefore have a more astringent taste.
