1. Foreign exchange quota:

According to the regulations of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, the Bank of China (BOC) is designated to handle the foreign exchange business of individual domestic residents for private purposes. Residents can purchase foreign exchange at BOC's branches under the following circumstances: 1. Outbound travel, family visits, and relatives can exchange foreign exchange, and can exchange US$1,000 or our equivalent foreign exchange to Hong Kong and Macao, and US$2,000 or US$2,000 equivalent foreign exchange to countries and regions outside Hong Kong and Macao (including Taiwan); Self-financed students and self-funded medical treatment can exchange a one-time exchange of 2,000 US dollars or 2,000 US dollars equivalent foreign exchange when leaving the country;

2. If the inviting party does not bear the petty expenses of the trip, the foreign exchange will be exchanged according to the standard of outbound family visits;

3. Residents pay the membership fees of international academic organizations and exchange foreign exchange for remittance according to the standards stipulated by their academic organizations; Residents who purchase medicines, medical equipment and other special foreign exchange from abroad can exchange foreign exchange within US$1,000 or the equivalent of US$1,000;

4. In the event of illness, death, accident and other special foreign exchange of the immediate family members of the resident individual, it can be exchanged for 1,000 US dollars or 1,000 US dollars equivalent in foreign exchange;

5. Foreigners who have resided in China for more than one year and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan can exchange RMB for 1,000 US dollars or 1,000 US dollars equivalent in foreign exchange after bringing in or purchasing articles for personal use from abroad;

For children under the age of leaving the country, the standard of foreign exchange supply will be halved. If the above exchange standards are exceeded, an application shall be made to the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.

2. Precautions:

In addition to submitting the certificate of household registration and the certificate of the work unit, residents who are traveling, visiting relatives, meeting relatives, studying abroad, or seeking medical treatment must also bring their passports and exit certificates that have completed a valid entry visa to the country. 

3. Special circumstances:

Residents who leave the country for private purposes can only exchange foreign exchange once a year during the validity period, regardless of how many times they go back and forth. Outbound for business purposes can only be exchanged once a year during the validity period, and it is also handled by the Bank of China, with a limit of US$200 or the equivalent of US$200 in foreign exchange. Regardless of where the resident applies for the passport and visa, he or she must go to the branch of the Bank of China where the household registration is located to purchase foreign exchange with the household registration certificate of the place where the household registration is located.
