Translation:

Bai Juyi word Lotte, Taiyuan Xiatai people. When he was nearly twenty years old, he went to the capital to visit (once) and meet (the celebrities at that time) to take care of the situation. Considering that he is a native of Wu in the south, he is proud of his talent, and there are few poets he recommends and recognizes, so he made fun of Bai Juyi and said:

Everything in Chang'an City is expensive, and it is not easy to 'live' here. ”

When I flipped through Bai Juyi's poems, I read that "the grass is separated from the plain, and the grass is one year old and one is gone." Wildfires can't be burned, and the spring breeze blows and grows", he sighed again: "It is not difficult to write such poems, and it is not difficult to live in the world."

Old man, I was joking before. "In the sixteenth year of Zhenyuan, Gao Ying, a scholar from the middle school, presided over the Jinshi examination and selected talents, Bai Juyi was all admitted to the examination, and was appointed as a school scholar by the imperial court.

In the first year of Yuanhe, Bai Juyi wrote more than 100 pieces of music and poetry, satirizing current affairs, and spread to the palace. After reading his poems, the emperor liked him very much, summoned him and appointed him to the post of Hanlin Scholar, and then successively served as Zuo Shizhi. At that time, a thief assassinated the prime minister, and there was a lot of discussion in the capital.

Bai Juyi was the first to go to the emperor and asked for an urgent arrest of the thieves.

The magnates hated him for overstepping their duties and were very angry with him. Soon there were rumors that "Bai Juyi's mother fell into a well and died, but he wrote a "New Well Chapter", the words are very exaggerated and gorgeous, and such a character cannot be reused.

Later, Bai Juyi was demoted to Jiangzhou Sima. At first, Bai Juyi just thought that the assassinated prime minister Wu Yuanheng should not be allowed to be on the streets, but in fact, he had no other ideas, (unexpectedly) angered the traitorous party, so his ambition was frustrated.

Bai Juyi's poems have a wide range of themes, diverse forms, and easy and popular language, and are known as "poetry demons" and "poetry kings". The official is the prince and the young master, the secretary of the criminal department, and the marquis of Fengyi County. In 846 AD, Bai Juyi died in Luoyang and was buried in Xiangshan.

There is "Bai's Changqing Collection" handed down, and representative poems include "Long Hate Song", "Charcoal Seller", "Pipa Xing" and so on.

In 1988, the Japanese Association for the Manifestation of Chinese Culture donated a stone tablet to Baiyuan to commemorate Bai Juyi, and the inscription was written in Chinese and Japanese. In 1995, four Japanese people wrote "Sakura" here.

About the Author

Baicong Xiaojuyi (772-846), the word Lotte, the late name Xiangshan Jushi, Tang Xia Tai people (near Weinan County, Shaanxi Province). Born in a small bureaucratic family, his family was in dire straits and lived a life of exile. Bai Juyi studied hard since he was a child, and when he was young, he had a poem name because of famous sentences such as "the wildfire burns inexhaustibly, and the spring breeze blows and grows" ("Farewell to the Ancient Grass").

Bai Juyi was 28 years old, that is, in the twenty-sixth year of Zhenyuan (800). In the tenth year of Yuanhe, because of "overstepping his duties", he degraded Sima of Jiangzhou. In his later years, he served as the young master of the crown prince, and finally died in Xiangshan in Luoyang, known as Baixiangshan.

In his later years, he indulged in poetry and wine, and was drunk with Mr. Yin. At the beginning, he was rewarded with Yuan Zhen, called "Yuan Bai", and was as famous as Liu Yuxi, called "Liu Bai".

Her works are approachable, the old woman can understand, and she is an advocate of the Xinle Fu defeat Zheng Xian movement. There are 3,000 of his poems extant, the largest number in the Tang Dynasty. He once divided his poems into four categories: allegorical, leisurely, sentimental and miscellaneous.

He attaches the most importance to allegorical poems, and his representative works include 10 poems of "Qin Zhongyin" and 50 poems of "Xin Yuefu", which reflect the suffering of the working people and embody the spirit of realism in poetry. However, the poems of "Xin Yuefu" also have the shortcomings of starting from the concept, lack of imagery and appeal. The most famous of Bai Juyi's sentimental poems are the long narrative poems "Song of Long Hatred" and "Pipa Xing", as well as 71 volumes of "Bai's Changqing Collection".

Bai Juyi's poems were easy and approachable, and they had spread widely at that time, even as far as "Japan, Siam (Thailand)". But his greatest influence was the new Yuefu poems.
