This quote comes from "Michelangelo" by the French writer Romain Rolland.
Romain Rolland (January 29, 1866 – December 30, 1944) was a thinker, writer, critical realist writer, critic, social activist, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1915, and a famous French humanitarian writer in the first half of the 20th century.
Writing features: Roland wrote heroic biographies in order to forge himself and to comfort his unknown brothers in suffering: "Great hearts are like mountain winds that strike them, and clouds entangle them, but there they breathe more vigorously than elsewhere." There is a purity in the air that removes the stain of the soul.
The preface to his Biography of Beethoven is like a flag: "The air around is oppressive, and old Europe is suffocated in a stuffy and filthy atmosphere." There is no great utilitarianism that suppresses the mind – the world is weakened by shrewd, wait-and-sell selfishness. The world is so breathless that open the window and burn!
Let's let in the air of freedom. Let the hearts of the heroes breathe. ”

The arrogant and selfish Pope ordered Michelangelo to cast a bronze statue for him, but Michelangelo's main job and skill was sculpture, and he did not know how to cast bronze statues, so he had to relearn and work in bronze casting day and night, for which Michelangelo suffered a lot.
Michelangelo was not only tormented by the loneliness and melancholy in his own heart, but also attacked and framed by villains. During the casting of the bronze statue, he shared a bed with two other people involved in the work, and unexpectedly, the two partners stole his scum, and in a fit of rage, he kicked the two men out of the group.
Before the matter was over, the two men began to spread rumors around the city, trying to take the credit for the bronze casting for themselves, and even falsely accusing Michelangelo of stealing their belongings, but to no avail. Shamefully demanded money from Michelangelo's father.
To Michelangelo's despair, the coppersmith he hired was a useless man, and the coppersmith had failed and everything would start over. Michelangelo worked even more day and night, without even eating, sleeping only a few hours a day, and his health was severely impaired.
Leaving aside Michelangelo's genius, his life was either lonely and melancholy for himself, or suffering for enemies and villains. Of course, his pain is tied to his genius. With his artistic talent, he is arrogant, has an almost crazy enthusiasm for art, especially sculpture, and disdains to make friends and manage contacts, and is a typical person with high IQ and low emotional intelligence.
In the era of social turmoil in the Renaissance, his timid personality left him with only loneliness and melancholy. All those who appreciate him are just squeezing the surplus value of his artistic creation, treating him with care when he can use it, and discarding it when he can't use it as if he were a shoe.
Reading notes: Romain Rolland's "Biography of Famous People" - a fragment of Michelangelo's tragic situation.
