Gaoyao District, a district under the jurisdiction of Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province, is located in the central part of Guangdong Province, in the middle and lower reaches of the Xijiang River, 90 kilometers away from Guangzhou, 138 nautical miles away from Hong Kong, adjacent to Sanshui District of Foshan City in the east and Yuncheng District of Yunfu City in the west.

Historical evolution: Gaoyao was the land of Baiyue in ancient times, the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period belonged to the sphere of influence of Chu State, and Qin belonged to Nanhai County.
In the first year of Emperor Gao of the Han Dynasty (206 BC), Zhao Tuo established the Nanyue Kingdom and ruled Xiang County, Guilin County and Nanhai County.
In the sixth year of the Yuanding Dynasty of the Western Han Dynasty (111 years ago), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty pacified the rebellion of Lüjia in Nanyue, and established Gaoyao County, which belonged to Cangwu County.
In the sixth year of Liang Tianjian in the Southern Dynasty (507), Gaoyao County was placed, and Gaoyao and Bolin counties were governed, and Gaoyao became the regional political center.

In the first year of Tianbao (742), Duanzhou was changed to Gaoyao County, and in the first year of Qianyuan (758), it was reverted to Duanzhou.
In the third year of Song Shaosheng (1096), Zhao Ji, the son of Shenzong, was named Duanwang and took Duanzhou as his fief. Four years later, Zhao Ji ascended the throne as Song Huizong, promoted Duanzhou to Xingqing Mansion, and placed the Xingqing Army Festival. In the first year of Chonghe (1118), Xingqing Mansion was changed to Zhaoqing Mansion.
In the seventeenth year of Yuan to Yuan (1280), Zhaoqing Mansion was changed to Zhaoqing Road.

The total land area of Gaoyao District is 218,560 hectares, ranking fourth among all counties (cities and districts) in Zhaoqing City. Among them, hectares of cultivated land, hectares of forest land, hectares of garden land, hectares of grassland, and hectares of facility agricultural land.
The main soil-forming parent rocks in the territory include sand shale, granite, river alluvium, wide valley alluvium, flood deposit, etc. Due to the comprehensive influence of climate, topography and geomorphology, hydrology, soil-forming parent material and human activities, the soil types are diverse and the distribution is complex.
The soil texture of sand shale is relatively clayey, mainly submerged and swampy paddy soil, and generally develops into sand shale red and yellow mud fields, sand shale red mud fields, and hemp red mud fields, and dry land is dominated by sand shale red land. Granite is mostly developed in the valleys of low hills and plains at an altitude of 8 to 50 meters, and mostly forms nuclear demolition pit fields (latent paddy soil), muddy fields (wide valley alluvial soil fields) and terraced fields (granite red mud fields).
