What does it mean to be in a boat?

The couplet is: "Where there is a will, it can be done, the cauldron is broken, and the one hundred and two Qin passes belong to Chu after all; Hard-working people, the sky does not bear, lying on the salary to taste the gall, three thousand Yuejia can swallow Wu. This couplet was written by Jin Sheng, a famous anti-Qing general.

一、破釜號舟 [pò fǔ chén zhōu].

Interpretation: It means to break the rice pot and scuttle the ferry, which is a metaphor for leaving no way out, and you must win the battle, and you are determined to do it to the end regardless of everything.

From: "Historical Records: Xiang Yu Benji": "Xiang Yu Naixi led troops across the river, all of them were sunk, broken cauldrons, burned houses, and held three days' rations to show that the soldiers would die, and none of them returned their hearts.

Xiang Yu then led the soldiers across the river, scuttled the ferry, broke the rice pot, burned the thatched hut, and left three days of grain and grass, determined to win the battle regardless of everything. ）

二、卧設設計計 [wò xīn cháng dǎn].

Interpretation: Describe a person who endures humiliation and burden, is angry and strives to be strong, and finally suffers willingly.

From: Sima Qian's "Historical Records": "When King Goujian returned to China, he was anxious and worried, put his courage in sitting, sat and lay on his back, and tasted his gall when he ate and ate.

After King Goujian returned to China. He was afraid that he would covet a comfortable life and consume his desire for revenge, so he slept on a straw pile at night with his weapon on his pillow, and he hung a bitter gall in the house, and tasted it every day. ）

"One hundred and two Qin passes belong to Chu after all, and three thousand Yue Jia can swallow Wu" refers to the history of Xiang Yu's great victory over Wang Li and the king of Yue, Goujian, who tried to swallow Wu in the history.

"Xiang Yu led all the troops across the Zhanghe River, sank all the boats, smashed all the pots and pans, burned all the military camps, and only brought three days of dry food, and finally defeated the Qin army, killed Su Jiao, and captured Wang Li. Xiang Yu's position among the princes was established.

"Lying on the salary and tasting the gall of 3,000 Yue Jia can swallow Wu" refers to the historical Yue King Goujian was afraid that he coveted a comfortable life, and consumed the ambition of revenge, so he pillowed his weapons at night and slept on the straw pile, and he also hung a bitter gall in the house, and tasted the bitter gall every morning after getting up, and finally annexed the state of Wu.

Shanglian is a broken cauldron and a sinking boat, saying that Xiang Yu led the army to attack the liquid reputation of Qin, and when crossing the Zhanghe River, he ordered the soldiers to leave only three days' dry food, and then sank the boat and smashed the pot to show that there is no advance or retreat, and the determination to win the victory;

The next link is lying on the salary to taste the gall is being buried, saying that the Yue Kingdom was destroyed by the Wu State, and the Yue King Goujian slept on the firewood and grass, and every day before going to bed, he had to lick and raise the bitter gall to remind himself not to forget the humiliation of the country. The "one hundred and two Qin Passes" in the couplet refer to the Hangu Pass of the Qin State, the Hangu Pass is dangerous, and one husband is the pass.

The meaning of these two sentences is: People with ambitions will succeed in doing things, just like Xiang Yu broke the kettle and sank the boat, and finally made the one hundred and two Qin Passes belong to Chu; A person who works hard and inspires his heart, God will not disappoint him, just like Gou Jian, who tried his courage and used only 3,000 soldiers and horses to destroy the state of Wu.

These two sentences are said to have been written by Pu Songling, a famous writer in the Qing Dynasty and the author of "Strange Tales from Liao Zhai", to motivate himself to study hard, and some people say that Yan Mai wrote them to praise Pu Songling's perseverance.

When Pu Songling repeatedly failed in the imperial examination in his later period and was extremely depressed, he personally wrote down the inspirational self-encouragement. At the beginning, it was engraved on a copper ruler, and then it was suspended in the study room of the study house Lu Wu, not written by Yan Mai.

This couplet uses the allusion of Xiang Yu breaking the cauldron and breaking the Qin soldiers, which shows that Xiang Yu must have the determination to fight to the end and have no hesitation. The next couplet is an allusion to the Yue Wang Goujian lying down and tasting the courage and destroying Wu Xue's shame, saying that it is necessary to learn from the perseverance of the Yue Zheng Jiao Wang Goujian to work hard and be indignant.
