Recently, I ran into MSN Messenger and encountered a "1601" error during installation (see Figure 1), and prompted it to its official **re**. However, this prompt still appeared when reinstalling according to this requirement, thinking that it was caused by the conflict between the two without uninstalling, but when calling the control panel to uninstall, there was an error, saying that the Windows installation service could not be accessed (see Figure 2). It seems that there is a problem with Windows Installer, and the Windows Installer is ** on the Internet, but it can't be installed, saying that it only supports NT system.

Do you have to reinstall Windows because of this problem?

Right-click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop, select "Administration", in the "Computer Management" tool, "Services and Applications", find "Windows Installer" in the right pane of the "Services" branch, find that the current status is stopped, try to start it, failed!

The author didn't want to reinstall the system, so I checked the information and finally found a solution: enter the "msiexec regserver" command in the command prompt, and then enter the computer management console to start the Windows Installer service, this time it was launched smoothly, install MSN Messenger again, everything is normal!

There is something to say: Windows installer service will be used in many software installations, if there is a problem will cause the software to not be installed, after the problem, you can not only find the cause in the software itself, you can try the above methods.

Restart the computer into safe mode (press the F8 key at startup), then click "Start > Run", enter the "cmd" command, enter "msiexec regserver" in the pop-up "cmd command prompt" window, and finally restart the system.

1. All programs installed with Installer cannot be installed normally, prompting: "Cannot access Windows Installer service. Maybe you're running Windows in Safe Mode, or Windows Installer isn't installed correctly.

2. Check the Windows Installer service, which is generally deactivated. If you try to enable it in a service, you will sometimes find that it is disabled by the system and then started again, prompting: "The specified service has been marked for deletion", or the activation success still has an error.

Solution: 1. Copy the above text to Notepad, save it as a file, and execute.

Reinstall Windows Installer. Before reinstalling, delete the three files in the %windir% system32 and %windir% system32 dllcache folders respectively in safe mode.
