The Stankovic Intercontinental Basketball Champions Cup was initiated by Cheng Wanqi, Honorary Life President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), in recognition of the contribution of the first FIBA Secretary-General, Boris Stankovic, to the development of international basketball. The inaugural competition was held in Beijing, China, from 26 to 31 July 2005, and Lithuania won the first competition. Each tournament features 6 teams, each of which is from the top national men's basketball teams from all six continents or invited teams, and is held annually.
