Tangxi County is one of the "Eight Wus" of Jinhua Prefecture. In 1958, Tangxi County was merged into Jinhua County except for the two townships north of the Qujiang River that were assigned to Lanxi County. Since 2001, it has belonged to Wucheng District, Jinhua City.
Old Tangxi County is located in the central west of Zhejiang Province. It is Jinhua County to the east, Lanxi County to the north, Longyou County to the west, Suichang County to the south, and Wuyi to the southeast.
