Wang Fuzhou, a famous Chinese mountaineer, a native of Xixi, Henan, was born in 1935, graduated from Beijing Institute of Geology in 1958, participated in mountaineering in the same year, and climbed Lenin Peak at an altitude of 7,134 meters in the Soviet Union. In 1959, he climbed the Muztag Mountain at an altitude of 7,546 meters in Xinjiang, and was awarded the title of athlete in the same year. Wang Fuzhou is the world's first mountaineer to climb Mount Everest from the north slope and the first Chinese mountaineer, executive vice chairman and secretary general of the China Science Exploration Association, consultant of the China Mountaineering Association, and former chairman of the China Mountaineering Association. On July 19, 2015, Wang Fuzhou died of illness at the age of 80.
