In 1982, he graduated from the Tea Industry Department of Anhui Agricultural University; He graduated from Anhui Agricultural University in 1985 with a master's degree. In 1992, he graduated from Jiangnan University with a doctorate degree. From 1994 to 1996, he was engaged in postdoctoral research in the Department of Food Science, University of Reading, UK. From May to September 2005, he was a senior visiting scholar at the University of California. Since 1985, he has worked in Anhui Agricultural University, successively served as Deputy Director of the Biotechnology Center, Dean of the College of Light Industry, Vice President of Anhui Agricultural University, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Anhui Agricultural University.

His research interests are tea biochemistry, tea safety production and quality control, and food chemistry.

Since 1996, Wan Xiaochun, as the leader of the tea science discipline, has led the tea science discipline team of Anhui Agricultural University, vigorously carried out the discipline construction with the construction of scientific research platform, and achieved remarkable results in the talent team, scientific research platform, high-quality course construction, textbook construction, teaching reform, scientific research base construction, scientific and technological innovation, and the combination of production, education and research, and built the key laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, Anhui Province and the Ministry of Education, the cultivation base of the State Key Laboratory, and the National Tea Processing Technology Research and Development Sub-center.
