Sick and dead. In April of the sixth year of Xiande (959), Chai Rong personally led the armies to the north to attack the Khitan. To Ningzhou, the assassin Wang Hong surrendered to the city. After that, he led the troops down by land and water, to Yijin Pass, and the Khitan guard finally surrendered to Tinghui. To Waqiao Pass, the guard general Yao Neibin surrendered to the city.
The state assassin Liu Chuxin surrendered to the state. In May, Yingzhou Assassin Shi Gao Yanhui returned to Shun with his own city. This time, the division was only 42 days, and the soldiers were bloodless, and they collected three passes and three prefectures in a row, a total of 17 counties. Chai Rong was preparing to take advantage of the victory to capture Youzhou, but returned in an illness.
In June of the sixth year of Xiande (959), Chai Rong returned to Bianjing due to illness, relieved Zhang Yongde of his position as a checker in front of the palace, and promoted Zhao Kuangyin to the inspector of the school and the front of the palace. The daughter of Fu Yanqing, the king of Wei, was the queen (that is, the queen of Xiao Fu).
With the emperor's eldest son Chai Zongxun as the general of the special left guard, the king of Liang; With the second son Chai Zongrang as the general of Zuo Xiaowei, he was named the Duke of Yanguo. On June 19, Chai Rong died at the age of Chinese New Year's Eve. Emperor Ruiwu Xiaowen is said to be the emperor of the temple, and the temple name is Sejong.

Chai Rong laid the foundation for the establishment of the Song Dynasty. Without Chai Rong, the Song Dynasty did not have the conditions to unify the world.
-
The most important achievement of Chai Rong's life is still in the military aspect, the army he led his country has been about to unify the whole of China, but at this time he died that there was a later Zhao Kuangyin's Chen Qiaoyi mutiny, thus stealing Chai Rong's military fruits and establishing the Song Dynasty.

Chai Zongxun had a good death.
This paragraph] Zhao Kuangyin made the little emperor of the Later Zhou Dynasty, Chai Zongxun, the Empress Dowager Fu the Empress Dowager of Zhou, and the little emperor was later moved to Fangzhou, and died in the sixth year of Kaibao of the Northern Song Dynasty (973) at the age of 20, and was called Emperor Gong.
There are very few records about Emperor Gong of the Later Zhou Dynasty in the history books, and there are some folk legends, but they are not believable. He was only 7 years old when he ascended the throne, and he had only been emperor for half a year. Legend has it that he lived in Tianqing Temple after his Zen throne, and then moved to Fangzhou, where he remained until his death at the age of 20.
Some legends believe that he was poisoned by Zhao Guangyi, Taizong of the Song Dynasty, which is unlikely. Because Zhao Kuangyin died in the ninth year of Kaibao (976), Chai Zongxun died three years earlier than him, and when Zhao Kuangyin was alive, Zhao Guangyi definitely did not dare to advocate poisoning Chai Zongxun. And according to Zhao Kuangyin's benevolent character and lifelong performance, he will never poison Chai Zongxun.
Before Zhao Kuangyin's death, he had set up a stone monument in the Taimiao, and later the new son of heaven had to go to the Taimiao to worship the monument and recite the oath silently. This stele stands in the mezzanine room of the Taimiao dormitory, except for the emperors of the Northern Song Dynasty, no one else knows. Even when the new emperor went to worship the monument, only one illiterate chamberlain followed, and the others were very far away and very mysterious.
It was not until the end of the Northern Song Dynasty that after the Jingkang Change, the palace gate was opened, and people were able to take a look, but it was a very simple three: first, to protect the descendants of the Chai family, and the guilty could not be punished; the second is not to kill the doctor and the person who writes and speaks; Third, children and grandchildren must not break the above oath, otherwise they will be punished by heaven. In addition, Zhao Kuangyin also issued the Chai family with a "Danshu Iron Coupon", with which the descendants of the Chai family will be exempt from death forever if they commit crimes.
In "Water Margin", the little whirlwind Chai Jin is so popular and lives a very nourishing life because of the Danshu iron coupon. It can be seen that Zhao Kuangyin's heart to protect Chai Zongxun and the Chai family is very sincere, how could he harm Chai Zongxun?
Folklore also has that Chai Zongxun later ran to Fujian in order to avoid trouble, and his descendants also changed their surname to "Lin". Chai Zongxun's tomb is now in Guodian, north of Xinzheng County, Henan Province, of course, he could not have gone to Fujian, and the traffic conditions at that time did not allow it. It may be that his descendants later came to Fujian for some reason and changed their surname to "Lin".
In short, we have reason to believe that Chai Zongxun must have had a good death.

Later Zhou Shizong Chai Rong (October 27, 921 – July 27, 959) was the Later Zhou Emperor during the Five Dynasties period, who reigned for six years. Xingzhou Yaoshan Chaijiazhuang (now Longyao County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province), grandfather Chai Weng, father Chai Shouli is a local family. Chai Rong grew up in the family of his uncle Guo Wei, and was adopted by Guo Wei as an adopted son because of his prudence and generosity.
History records it"He is good at riding and shooting, and he is familiar with the history of Huang Lao, and his sex is heavy and silent"。In 951, Guo Wei established the Later Zhou Dynasty and appointed Chai Rong to govern the territory of Lanzhou"For the sake of political purge, thieves do not violate the border"。In 954, Guo Wei died, and Chai Rong succeeded him as emperor.
During Chai Rong's reign, he trained the army, eliminated redundant and weak, appeased exiles, and reduced taxes, so that the politics of the Later Zhou Dynasty were clear, the people were rich, and the Central Plains began to recover. He fought in the south and in the north, defeated Houshu in the west, and captured the four states of Qin, Feng, Cheng and Jie; The south destroyed the Southern Tang Dynasty, and won the 14 states of Jiangbei and Huainan; The Khitan is broken in the north, and the two states and three passes of Lianke. He fell ill while discussing the acquisition of Youzhou, and died soon after, at the age of 39, the temple name Sejong, the name of Emperor Ruiwu Xiaowen, and the burial of Qingling.
-
In 959 A.D., Sejong made a northern expedition to the Khitan, and won successes, and feasted the generals on the evening of May 2, but on this night, Sejong suddenly fell ill and died more than a month later. There are very few records in history, only that it is said that he died of a sore on his chest, but Sejong died mysteriously, which may have been poisoned and assassinated by Zhao Kuangyin, and after half a year, Zhao was very successful in usurping the throne. When Sejong was there, Zhao secretly formed a cabal with Zhao Kuangyi and Zhao Pu as the core, and attracted talents in many ways.
So I think the cause of Sejong's death has something to do with this.

**: Led the army to fight for days, overworked, and died suddenly of heart attack.
-
Later Zhou Shizong Chai Rong died of illness in the sixth year of Later Zhou Shizong's Xiande, that is, in 959 AD.
The following is the historical record:
癸巳, the emperor collapsed in the hall of long live, and the holy life was thirty-nine. "History of the Old Five Dynasties, Book of Zhou, Shizong Ji".
In June of the sixth year of Hyeondeok, Sejong collapsed. "The History of the New Five Dynasties: Zhou Benji (Sejong)".
Hope it helps.

Because the army in the south is easier to defeat, and the south has a lot of strategic resources, it can get very good supplies.
Judging from the current historical records, Zhao Kuangyin did give preferential treatment to Chai Rong's descendants, and the little whirlwind Chai Jin in the Water Margin we saw was Chai Rong's descendants, so his Danshu iron scroll was given to him by Zhao Kuangyin.

The Later Han and Northern Han were a family, and the Later Han killed the Guowei family, so the Later Zhou had a natural enmity with them, and it was also the established strategy of the Zhou and Song dynasties to retreat the Khitan to the north and seize the sixteen states of Yanyun. The Northern Han is just in the middle of the road, and hooks up with the Khitan, so if you don't beat him, you will keep him?
