The Chinese Weightlifting Association is a national mass sports organization and a group member of the All-China Sports Federation. The highest authority is the National Congress, which is the executive body, and the Secretariat handles its day-to-day work under the leadership of the President and Vice-President.

The Chinese Weightlifting Association (Chinese Weightlifting Association, abbreviated as CWA) is a mass sports organization with independent legal personality registered and managed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, with the State General Administration of Sports as the business director. The Chinese Weightlifting Association is one of the individual sports associations under the leadership of the All-China Sports Federation, a national sports association recognized by the Chinese Olympic Committee, and the only legal organization representing China to participate in international weightlifting organizations and international weightlifting activities. Since its establishment, the association has been in increasingly frequent exchanges with other countries, and has organized athletes to participate in world competitions and international invitational tournaments for many times.

The Chinese Weightlifting Association was founded in Beijing in 1956

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is abbreviated as the International Weightlifting Federation. It was founded in 1905 on the initiative of France. Before 1968, it was known as the International Weightlifting and Fitness Federation.

The International Weightlifting Federation has 189 member associations (as of 25 March 2013), of which 35 are in Africa, 45 in Asia, 49 in Europe, 22 in Oceania and 22 in Pan America.

The official languages of the IWF are English, French, Spanish, German, Russian and Arabic. The working language is English.

IWF is a member of the International Federation of Individual Sports Federations. The IWF is guided by Olympic ideals and principles to make weightlifting a means of promoting world peace and mutual understanding and opposing any discrimination based on political, racial and religious beliefs. Its purpose and mission are:

the development of weightlifting worldwide; Strengthen the friendship and cooperation between national weightlifting associations and athletes, and help national weightlifting associations to carry out weightlifting; Manage and coordinate international weightlifting competitions worldwide and determine the rules of the competition; training referees, coordinating and setting schedules for international competitions and other events; Approval of world records, etc.

IWF has four special committees: technology, scientific research, medical affairs and auditing.

The IWF is funded by membership dues from its members, television broadcasts and fees paid by the organizers of international competitions.

The organization publishes the IWF Bulletin, which is published monthly. The content includes the results of international competitions, world championships, international games, competition regulations, changes in member addresses, reports on congresses and conferences, etc.

The events organized by the IWF are mainly the World Championships, the World Youth Championships and the Olympic Weightlifting Competition.

China joined the IWF in 1936, was confirmed by the IWF in 1955, withdrew in 1958, and resumed its membership in the IWF in September 1974.
