China Iron and Steel Association is a state-level industrial association in China, founded in 1985, is an industry self-regulatory organization under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the guidance of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, aiming to represent and serve China's steel industry and promote the healthy development of the Sparrow industry. According to the institutional reform plan of the National Forest Dust Institute approved by the first session of the Ninth National People's Congress and the Notice on the Establishment of the State Bureau under the Management of Ministries and Commissions (Guo Fa 1998 No. 6), the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry was reorganized into the State Metallurgical Industry Bureau.

The State Metallurgical Industry Bureau is the administrative agency in charge of the metallurgical industry managed by the State Economic Commission. In 2001, the reform of state organs and institutions, the State Economic and Trade Commission administered the domestic bureau, the Metallurgical Industry Bureau, and other nine state bureaus formally abolished, and their relevant administrative functions have been merged into the State Economic and Trade Commission, the original administrative functions of the State Bureau will be merged into the relevant departments and bureaus of the State Economic and Trade Commission, and the seven or eight hundred staff members subordinate to these national bureaus will be transferred to the Economic and Trade Commission, the board of supervisors, industry associations, and other institutions or enterprises. The State Economic and Trade Commission (SETA) has been functioning as a new organ and function.

The State Economic and Trade Commission will directly contact 10 comprehensive industry associations, including the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, and the development strategy and industry planning will be directly managed by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association and other industry associations, and at the same time, they will be authorized to manage more than 200 other associations, and they will also be entrusted with the management of the information center, the planning institute and some other public institutions managed by the former State Bureau. According to the first session of the 10th National People's Congress approved the first session of the national reform plan and the "notice on the establishment of institutions" to set up the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, in 2003, the first institutional reform, no longer set up the State Economic and Trade Commission, its main functions were assigned to the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce.
