Modify the function of MTU and how to set the MTU value

Speed up your network. For example, the maximum packet that can pass through a gateway is 1500 bytes. The PC is 1600 bytes.

The fifth step is to continuously correct the size of the packets to finally obtain the mtu value of the current network. For example, in my case, test 1464 passes, but 1465 fails, so the network mtu value is 1464.

It is important to note here that when setting the local mtu value, it is necessary to add 28 to this measured value, i.e. 1464+28 = 1492.

MTU setting 1500 is best.

Bigger MTU is not better, because the larger the MTU, the greater the delay in transmitting a packet; And the larger the MTU, the greater the probability of a bit error in the packet. The larger the MTU, the higher the communication efficiency and the higher the transmission delay, so it is necessary to weigh the communication efficiency and transmission delay to choose the appropriate MTU. There is no fixed best, only the most reasonable according to the network environment is the best.

Even if it is an optical fiber line, the MTU value after each dial-up will be different (the deviation value of ** line, network cable, etc. into the home may be greater), so the optimal value can only be obtained after actual testing. If there is no serious problem with the line and a wide range of web pages cannot be opened, it is not recommended that users modify the default MTU value by themselves.
