Meditation in Eight StepsThree meditations refer to a method of meditation that consists of eight steps and three different ways of meditation. Here is a description of each meditation style:
The first form of meditation is the "counting of breaths." This is the most basic form of meditation and is suitable for beginners. By observing and counting their breathing, beginners can gradually reduce distractions, improve concentration, and gradually enter a state of meditation.
The second form of meditation is "chanting the Buddha", which is suitable for meditators who have a certain understanding of Buddhism. By chanting sutras and visualizing Buddha images, meditators can gradually purify their minds and increase their compassion and wisdom.
The third form of meditation is the "Reality of Buddha Meditation", which is the most in-depth form of meditation. By visualizing reality, the meditator can transcend the limitations of time and space and achieve true purity and freedom.
The Eight Steps of Meditation are the eight steps that concretely implement these three forms of meditation. These steps include: adjusting posture, relaxing the body, adjusting breathing, focusing, recalling, visualizing, experiencing reality, and maintaining mindfulness.
Through these steps, the meditator can gradually enter a state of deep meditation and gain inner peace and wisdom.

What are the eight steps of the three meditations:
True intentions permeate everything, everywhere, including walking, living, sitting, lying, and even eating, drinking, and Lazar. As long as you are mindful, you can practice anytime, anywhere. In Buddhism, there are eight steps and three types of meditation.
1. Conceptual meditation (steps 1 to 4).
Essentials of Meditation: Use the principles learned, think in combination with the reality of life, and complete the change of concepts.
1. Observe and repair.
Through the study of relevant materials (books, audio-visual materials), and thinking about real-world problems, we can gain correct views.
Clause. 1. Through study, we should accurately understand the meaning of the law and know what it is trying to explain.
Clause. 2. Observe and think deeply in relation to real life, so as to determine the truth of Buddhism as the most profound, so as to accept this understanding and establish a correct view of life.
2. Settle down and repair.
Settle in this view, and keep familiarizing, repeating, and reinforcing it.
Clause. 1. Through observation and thinking, we can gain correct understanding and settle down in correct understanding.
Clause. 2. Repeatedly observe and think, constantly get rid of the original erroneous understanding, establish a correct understanding, and continue to settle down in the correct understanding, so as to complete the change of concept.
2. Meditation on the state of mind (5 to 6 steps).

In the second lesson, when I was learning how to study, I was exposed to the eighteen-character principle and the eight-step three meditation practices, but I only stayed at the stage of superficial understanding and did not have a deep understanding. The tutor proposes to "understand, accept, and apply" the attitude of "sincerity, seriousness, and honesty" to achieve a change in "concept, mentality, and quality of life". Through the teacher's detailed explanation, I realized that the original attitude pattern determines whether I can connect with the Dharma, and the learning method determines whether I can truly correspond to the Dharma.
How to use the eight steps determines the effectiveness of my learning. These are all very important and worth reflecting on!
Ask yourself: Have you achieved "sincerity, seriousness, and honesty" after entering the study? I used to think that my learning attitude was not bad, and I also read books seriously, but now that I look at it, the answer is still no!
Regarding sincerity: In the legal sense, it is said that one should sincerely recognize all kinds of faults in life, and to be free from three kinds of faults and gather six kinds of thoughts. One of the most important things is to think of yourself as a seriously ill person!
I didn't have a strong sense of identity with this before, and I always thought that although I sometimes had troubles and pains, I was not a seriously ill person. Therefore, in the face of sincerity, it is greatly discounted, and the effect of learning can be imagined!
The second is that I am not serious enough. For example, the daily self-study is very random, the time cannot be fixed, reading books is also a leisurely view, the knowledge that interests you will read it several times, and the knowledge that you are not interested in will pass by. It's true that more than three times is not fully done.
It is precisely because of my insincerity and dishonesty in my studies that I found that I did not do a good job in the first three steps of the eight-step study! Understanding is also only on the surface, just scratching the surface. It is not complete, accurate, and thorough, just like what the teacher said about the overlay and leakage, which is exactly what he is talking about!
However, through the study of this class, I deeply feel that the attitude pattern determines the degree to which I understand, accept, and apply the Fa, and even more so determines the degree to which I benefit from the Fa! The Dharma is vast and profound, and many of the teachings are layered, so I should listen to and think more about the teachings of the Dharma, and really know what it is talking about, so that the wisdom of the Dharma can really help me change myself!
Thanks to the counselors and assistants who helped us realize the importance of the eight-step learning as early as possible! Zhang Yu.
