Chen Hanzhang, born in 1912, is a Manchu and a native of Dunhua City, Jilin Province. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1932. In 1935, he served as chief of staff of the Second Division of the Fifth Army of the Suining Anti-Japanese Allied Army.
At the end of 1935, he was transferred to the commander of the Second Division of the Second Army of the Northeast People's Revolutionary Army, and later reorganized into the Fifth Division, and still served as the division commander. In August 1939, he served as the commander of the Third Front Army of the First Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Alliance. During the arduous years of anti-Japanese guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines, he adhered to the party's line of resisting Japan and saving the country, and led his troops to fight in Dunhua, Antu, Wangqing, Huadian, Jiaohe, Ning'an and other places, making important contributions to strengthening the anti-Japanese forces and containing and attacking the Japanese puppet army.
On December 8, 1940, he led his troops to fight with the Japanese puppet army in Xiaowangou, Ning'an County, Heilongjiang Province.

It is located 200 meters south of Hanzhang Village, Hanzhang Township, Dunhua City, Jilin Province. In order to commemorate the heroic spirit of the anti-Japanese hero Chen Hanzhang, a tomb was secretly built at the end of December 1940 at the place where the martyrs were sacrificed. After the liberation, the local people and the people rebuilt the tomb and erected the monument.
The martyr's tomb is a sealed earth tomb, and there is a high stone tablet standing in front of the tomb, and the front is engraved with "The tomb of General Chen Hanzhang, the hero of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Coalition Army." On April 5, 1972, all the poor and middle peasants of the Hanzhang Brigade were established". The cemetery is rectangular in shape, with an area of 120 square meters, and is surrounded by trees.
In July 1983, Hanzhang Township erected an 8-meter-high memorial tower with a pentagonal base in the general's cemetery. The front of the tower body is engraved with "General Chen Hanzhang is immortal", the north side is engraved with "General Chen Hanzhang's resume", and the west side is engraved with the inscription written by all the staff of Hanzhang Township: "Changbai is mountainous, iron bones are strong, ten years of fighting day by day, and blue blood wins the red of the country."
Outstanding party members, national heroes, the pride of their hometowns, the motherland, the generals have made great achievements in history, and the martyrs are heroic. "The tomb of General Chen Hanzhang was listed as a state-level martyr's memorial building protection unit by the people of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in 1981.

After the Japanese army killed General Chen Hanzhang, they sent someone to make a coffin, and the coffin was made of foreign iron sheets. The body of the headless general was returned to half of Hetun. After the body was brought back, the villagers built a tomb for the general and buried the general's body in the tomb.
In 1946, Chen Hanzhang's head was transferred to Harbin City and preserved in the Harbin Martyrs Cemetery.
In October 1948, after the liberation of Changchun, the party sent people to find Chen Hanzhang's remains, placed them in the Northeast Martyrs Memorial Hall, and buried them in the Harbin Martyrs Cemetery in 1955. In order to commemorate Chen Hanzhang, the people of Dunhua named his birthplace Hanzhang Township, and the local middle school was also named Hanzhang Middle School, and also built a number of monuments in Chen Hanzhang's cemetery and urban area. The old man Yang Minggu couldn't help but burst into tears when he mentioned General Chen Hanzhang.
He pointed out: "The general has sacrificed his life for the country for more than 70 years, but he is still buried in two places, which is not in line with the tradition of the Chinese, and it is also emotionally unacceptable to the Dunhua people." Dunhua people hope that on the 100th anniversary of General Chen Hanzhang's birth, they can communicate with relevant departments, invite the general's head back to Dunhua, bury the head together, and rebuild the general's tomb.
In order to carry forward the spirit of heroic martyrs, at the beginning of July 2011, the Dunhua Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Party Committee decided to actively carry out a series of activities to celebrate the centenary of the birth of General Chen Hanzhang in the city and rebuild the Chen Hanzhang Cemetery. On July 21, the relevant leaders of the Dunhua Municipal Party Committee, the municipal ** and the heads of relevant departments went to the Harbin Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery to discuss the matter of respectfully inviting Chen Hanzhang's head back to his hometown for burial. On August 1, more than 80 people, including Hanzhang Township**, Hanzhang Township Middle School, Hanzhang Village Party Branch and General Chen Hanzhang's relatives, went to the Harbin Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery to pay respects to the tomb of General Chen Hanzhang, and expressed the wish of the general's posthumous head to return to his hometown for burial as soon as possible on behalf of the heroic hometown.
In 2012, the reconstruction and expansion project of Chen Hanzhang Martyrs Cemetery officially broke ground, and on June 13, 2013, the Martyrs Cemetery held a "joint burial" ceremony.
On the morning of April 10, 2013, Chen Hanzhang's nephew Yan Cheng, niece Yan Chunyan and a welcoming team from Dunhua City set off from Dunhua City to Harbin. At 9 o'clock on the 11th, the handover ceremony of General Chen Hanzhang's remains was held in the Harbin Martyrs Cemetery.
On the afternoon of April 11, 2013, the convoy arrived at Wolongshan Cemetery in Dunhua City. Chen Hanzhang's remains will be temporarily preserved in the Wolongshan Cemetery in Dunhua City, and will be officially buried after the completion of the General Chen Hanzhang Martyrs Cemetery. June 14, 2013 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of General Chen Hanzhang.
On June 13, the "General Chen Hanzhang's Head Funeral and Public Memorial Ceremony" was held in the Chen Hanzhang Martyrs Cemetery in Dunhua, Jilin, so that Chen Hanzhang, a famous anti-Japanese general, could sleep peacefully on the land of his hometown on the occasion of his centennial. After that, the cemetery will be open to the public for people to pay homage to the martyrs.
