Sun Simiao (581 682 AD), a native of Sun Jiayuan in Yaoxian County, was frail and sick in his early years, and his family was poor. When he was a teenager, he began to study medical and pharmacology, and he read the history of the scriptures and said that he had a deep attainment when he was young. After completing his studies, he resigned from the imperial court and lived in seclusion at home for a long time to practice medicine and help people.

In his later years, according to the medical literature of the Tang Dynasty, he collected the best experience of the people, combined with his personal medical experience, and compiled medical books. There are 30 volumes of "Qianjin Yaofang" and "Qianjin Yifang" each of them, which are his masterpieces. In ancient times, when printing was not developed, manuscripts were widely circulated, and it was not until the Song Dynasty that an excerpt of the two books was published and introduced to Korea and Japan.

These two books pioneered disease classification, symptom description, first-class methods and pharmaceutical prescriptions, and made great contributions to the development of Chinese medicine.

Yaowang Mountain is in the southern part of Quxian County, Zhejiang Province.
