China has a perfect approval system for the construction of irradiation enterprises, and has strict standards for the safety design of new irradiation enterprises. In the actual operation process, it is impossible for the radioactive source to come into contact with the operator, let alone affect the people around the enterprise, so you don't have to worry about it.

Irradiated food, if irradiated under the specified requirements, generally does not have food safety problems.

Irradiated food is more likely to cause accidents in the following areas:

The irradiation effect is not up to standard, resulting in poor results. For example, irradiation sterilization, after treatment, there are still microorganisms that continue to multiply.

The dose of irradiation exceeds the specified amount: irradiation is actually a kind of radioactivity, and if the dose of irradiation exceeds the standard, it can easily lead to the denaturation of the product.

In addition, there are some foods that are not suitable for irradiation. Therefore, do not irradiate indiscriminately, otherwise the more you treat, the worse it will become.

How irradiation works: Exposing food to ionizing radiation is a process that kills microorganisms, bacteria, viruses or microscopic insects on food. Other applications include inhibiting germination, delaying fruit ripening, promoting juice production and enhancing rehydration.

Not all foods need irradiation, and the main purpose of irradiation is to sterilize (packaged foods, such as ham sausage instant noodles or something), and to prevent sprouts (garlic, potatoes). Before the latest national mandatory standard GB18524-2016 came out, the food irradiation process was used indiscriminately, and a large number of expired food was repackaged and irradiated and sterilized and re-put into the market, but the biggest consequence of irradiated food is excessive irradiation and biological DNA changes caused by irradiation, which destroys the nutrients of the food itself, and may cause genetic mutations and cell mutations of consumers to cause cancer. The high incidence of cancer in China is highly likely to be related to the large-scale use of irradiation to sterilize processed foods. Based on the above consequences, the state has issued a relatively strict irradiated food standard GB18524-2016, which only stipulates that 8 types of food are allowed to be irradiated and makes a strict irradiation process.

Since the implementation of the national mandatory standards for three years, many enterprises are still illegally producing food, especially solid beverage pre-packaged food, which belongs to processed food and is not allowed to irradiate, and most of the shelf life of more than 1 year has been illegally irradiated, and is not labeled according to the requirements of the national standard, defrauding consumers.
