In the articles of the pre-Qin Dynasty, words such as "the country of a thousand rides" are often said, that is, a country with a thousand taels of chariots, so you understand "ride" as a car or a ship, anyway, it is a means of transport, and it is called a means of transportation in today's words.

The so-called "Hinayana" is a small means of transportation, and it is good to be able to move oneself from this shore of birth and death to the other shore of liberation, while "Mahayana" is a large means of transportation, which can not only save oneself, but also many other people, and this is mainly to emphasize the difference between self-interest and altruism.

Why is Mahayana called "great"?

It corresponds to the seven great natures, hence the name Mahayana. What are the seven great natures?
