Ai Qing (1910-1996), a famous modern Chinese poet, was formerly known as Jiang Haicheng and used pen names such as Lin Bi. He was born into a family of landlords in the countryside of Jinhua, Zhejiang, but was raised by the milk of a poor woman, and his soul was infected with the melancholy of the peasants from an early age. Ai Qing's main interest in painting in his youth, he studied at the National West Lake Art Institute in Hangzhou, went to France to study in 1929, and after returning to China in 1932, he participated in the "Chinese Left-wing Artists Union" in Shanghai, and was arrested by the Kuomintang in July of the same year and imprisoned for three years.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, Ai Qing immediately devoted himself to the great national liberation war. With his works, he tells the suffering of the nation with grief and indignation. In the early 40s, Ai Qing went to Yan'an from the Kuomintang, lived and created in Xintiandi in the liberated area, until the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, and the poet actively participated in the liberation war; In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, he also served as some administrative leaders in the literary and artistic circles.

However, whether it was in the days of artillery fire or busy administrative affairs, the poet always insisted on creating, and even in 1957, when he was wrongly classified as a "rightist" and was decentralized, his poetic heart was still beating. After the "Gang of Four" was smashed in 1976, the poet was rehabilitated, and he rejuvenated his creative youth, writing and publishing excellent works such as "Fish Fossils". In 1979, the poet compiled "Selected Poems of Ai Qing" and submitted it to the People's Literature Publishing House for publication.
