Title: The General History of the World, 7th Edition.
Edition: Peking University Press.
Reason for recommendation: The famous American historian Stavrianos's "General History of the World", first published in the early 70s of the 20th century, is a popular historiographical classic all over the world, and readers are no strangers to it.
So why do you recommend it now? In order to meet the needs of the new era and according to the development of society, the author has made a great "optimization and upgrading" of the book from structure to content.
As the author puts it in the seventh edition of "To the Reader": "Why do we need a general history of the world in the 21st century? Each era has its own history written.
It is not because the earlier history was not written correctly, but because every era faces new problems, raises new questions, and seeks new answers.
This is self-evident in today's exponential pace of change, so we need a new history that asks new questions and gives new answers.
What works should be kept and what is not good should be discarded — and that is what the world is trying to do right now.
It is in this spirit that this new edition of this book has been created, and it is hoped that it will contribute to this process of re-evaluation, so as to achieve the "improvement of life" advocated by Bacon, and the "humble purpose" that he opposed.
Since its publication, "The 15th Year of Wanli" has become a long-selling classic historical work.
Although the title of the book is the fifteenth year of Wanli, its content overlooks the rise and fall of the entire Ming Dynasty, and tells us that Hai Rui and Zhang Juzheng are different from previous history books, and ......Reading Huang Renyu's book, you will deeply understand that "history gives wisdom to people"!

The book "History" is also called "History of the Greco-Persian Wars" because it describes the Greco-Persian Wars. Originally, it was not divided into volumes, but later the proofreaders of Alexandria divided it into nine volumes and named it after the goddess Muse, hence the Histories also known as the Book of Muse.
The book can be divided into two parts: the first half of the book is section 27 from the first volume to the fifth volume, which mainly describes the rise of the Persian Empire and the historical background of the Greek-Persian wars; Book V, Section 28 and then Part II, which focuses on the Greco-Persian Wars. Herodotus did not blindly follow legends when he created his works, but explained the causes and consequences of historical events while recording history, creating a unique way of narrating history.
The word originally meant "investigation", "**", and because of the influence of this work, the Roman orator Cicero described him as "the father of history" (pater historiae). But many historians and philosophers have doubted the veracity of Herodotus's account and have called him "the father of lies" or "the deceiver". But recent archaeological findings confirm that Herodotus' Histories are largely accurate.
In many uncertain cases, Herodotus consulted the most authoritative historiographical accounts of events in various places and in various places, and only then expressed his opinion to discern the truth and give explanations.
