What did Nokia do?
-
The history of Nokia began in 1865. In 1865, mining engineer Fredich Idestam built a wood pulp mill on the border between Finland and the Russian Empire on the border of the Finnish town of Tampere, where local trees were used as raw materials to produce wood pulp and cardboard.
In 1868, Edelstein established his second factory on the Nokianvirta River, 15 kilometres west of Tampere: the Rubber Processing Plant, which produced rubber products for industrial use in addition to leather boots and tires. In 1871, with the help of his friend Leo Michelin, Edelstein merged the two factories into one factory and turned them into a single share****, Edelstein became the first Nokia manager, and the two subsequently named the company "Nokia".
The company has since retained the name "Nokia".
At the end of the century, Edelstein handed over the management of Nokia to Leo Michelin, just as the radio industry was just beginning. Michelin had the whimsical idea to expand Nokia's business into the telecommunications industry, but was opposed by Edelstein. It wasn't until 1902 that Michelin convinced Edelstein that Nokia added a cable division.
But what Michelin didn't expect was that what he had built on a whim would eventually become Nokia.
Nokia Corporation is a multinational company headquartered in Espoo, Finland, mainly engaged in the production of mobile communication products. Founded in 1865 as a paper-making business, Nokia gradually expanded into rubber shoes, tires, cables, and finally developed into a mobile phone manufacturer. Since 1996, Nokia has held the No. 1 market share for 14 consecutive years.
In the face of the rise of smartphones with new operating systems, Nokia's position as the world's No. 1 mobile phone sales was surpassed by both Apple and Samsung in the second quarter of 2011.
On February 11, 2011, Nokia and Microsoft reached a global strategic alliance and in-depth cooperation to jointly develop the Windows Phone operating system. At 23 o'clock on July 11, 2013, the Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41 million pixels was officially unveiled in New York. On September 3, 2013, Microsoft announced the acquisition of Nokia's Devices & Services division (Nokia's mobile phone business) for approximately 100 million euros**, and obtained the relevant patents and brand licenses.
In the future, Nokia will strive to develop three pillars of its business: HERE Map Service, Nokia Solutions & Network (NSN) and Leading Technology. On April 25, 2014, Nokia announced the completion of the mobile phone business transaction with Microsoft Corporation, officially exiting the mobile phone market.
