Founded in December 2000, the Institute of Educational Sciences of Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a teaching and scientific research institution affiliated to Huazhong University of Science and Technology, formerly known as the Higher Education Research Office founded in October 1980. On June 13, 1985, the Higher Education Research Office was expanded and rebuilt into the Institute of Higher Education.1 On December 16, 2000, the Institute of Higher Education merged with the National College Students' Cultural Quality Education Base, the Wuhan Research Base of the National Degree and Graduate Education Development Center, and the Journal of Higher Engineering Education Research to form the Institute of Educational Sciences. After more than 30 years of construction and development, the college has made great progress in discipline construction, scientific research, talent training and social service, and has formed a school-running tradition of "strict requirements, high starting point, solid foundation, truth-seeking, innovation, and practice-oriented".

The college cultivates academic and professional talents according to the needs of the society, and currently has more than 200 master's and doctoral students, and has sent a large number of outstanding talents to domestic and foreign universities, education management departments and related institutions for more than 30 years. Huazhong University of Science and Technology is one of the earliest universities in China to establish public administration related majors, the School of Public Administration has the right to confer master's and doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of public administration, and trains master's and doctoral students in five secondary disciplines: administrative management, land resources management, social medicine and health management, and educational economics and management. The school has independently set up two second-level discipline doctoral programs in e-government and public safety and emergency management, and is the first in China to train doctoral students in these two majors.
