Guo Moruo (1892-1978), formerly known as Guo Kaizhen, also known as Guo Dingtang. A native of Leshan, Sichuan. Writer, poet, playwright, historian, archaeologist, paleographer, social activist.
Guo Moruo was born into a family of middle-class landowners and merchants. In his early years, he studied medicine and then literature. In 1918, he began to write new poems.
During the "May Fourth" period, he published new poems such as "Goddess", and became the founder of new Chinese poetry. In 1926, he was appointed Dean of the School of Literature of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong. In 1927, he participated in the Nanchang Uprising and joined the Communist Party of China on the way south of the rebel troops.
In 1928, he was wanted by Chiang Kai-shek and lived in Japan, where he engaged in the research of ancient Chinese history and paleography, and wrote "Research on Ancient Chinese Society" and "Research on Oracle Bone Inscriptions".
