Alashankou (Xinjiang), 2006 (Xinhua) -- The China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline has officially delivered oil to China. At around midnight Beijing time, ** began to arrive at the Alashankou metrology station in Xinjiang, China. This is the first time that China has realized the import of goods from abroad by pipeline**.
-
Overview: The China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline will start from the Caspian port city of Atyrau in western Kazakhstan in the west, pass through the Aktobe oil area purchased by PetroChina in Kazakhstan, cross the whole territory of Kazakhstan to Alashankou on the Sino-Kazakh border, and then from Alashankou to Dushanzi in Xinjiang, China, with a total length of 3,088 kilometers, and the project will be completed in three phases. Among them, 2,818 kilometers are in Kazakhstan and 270 kilometers are in China.
The total cost of the pipeline is estimated to be US$3 billion, and its initial design capacity is 20 million tons of oil per year.
Westward expansion of China-Kazakhstan oil pipelines: "The two sides will assist their respective economic entities in the implementation of the second phase of the China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline, the China-Kazakhstan natural gas pipeline project, the petrochemical complex, and other projects, as well as cooperation in the field of oil and gas deep processing," the China-Kazakhstan Joint Communiqué signed on August 18 last year.
The China-Kazakhstan pipeline mentioned in the communiqué is the "paving stone" to the Caspian Oil. Last year, the first cross-border oil pipeline between China and Kazakhstan was built, linking PetroChina's oil fields in central Kazakhstan with China's Xinjiang region. The second phase of the China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline is scheduled to be completed in 2011, with an annual oil transportation capacity of 20 million tons.
Known as the "second Persian Gulf", the Caspian Sea has begun to beckon to China, a major oil consumer, and the path for Caspian oil to enter China is expected to be opened.
