What is Slavism and what are the main elements of modern Slavism

Pan-Slavism arose at the beginning of the 19th century and first appeared among the intellectuals of the West Slavs and Yugoslavs. At that time, the national consciousness of the West Slavs and the Southern Slavs was being formed, and scholars and poets among them enthusiastically studied the folk songs, folklore and rural dialects of the Slavic peoples in order to prove their ethnic kinship and linguistic similarity, in an attempt to express a common Slavic consciousness. In addition to the development of their own national consciousness, the awakening of the modern national consciousness of the Slavic peoples is inseparable from the infection of the maturing national consciousness of Western Europe.

In the course of communication with the peoples of Western Europe, the Slavic peoples, especially the small Slavic peoples, had a very strong sense of "we" and were in a politically disadvantaged position compared with the vibrant Western European countries of "them", so they felt that it was necessary for the Slavic peoples to become a whole in order to make up for the inferiority of "them" and to give the Slavs a new source of strength and stimulate the national spirit of "our". 

Pan-Slavism consciously leads the search for ethnic kinship and cultural homology to the collective identity of the Slavic nation, which is not only a response to the objective historical process of the continuous maturing of national consciousness and the gradual formation of nation-states in Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans in the 19th century, but also the need for the political and psychological development of the Slavic people. Then Pan-Slavism soon turned into a national political movement, and the national question became one of the driving forces for the development of the Pan-Slavic movement. 
