Riyu [Song Dynasty] Su Shi Those who are born do not know the sun, and those who ask have eyes. Or it is said, "The shape of the sun is like a copper plate."
Buckle and get its voice, he hears the bell every day, thinking that the day is also. Or he said, "The light of the sun is like a candle."
Pulling the candle and getting its shape, he thought it was the day, thinking that the day was also. The sun is far away from the bell and the gong, and those who look at it do not know the difference, and those who ask for it without seeing it are also.
The way is more difficult to see than the sun, and the unattainable of man is no different from the eye. The master told him that although there is a clever and good guide, it is not too much to be too good and candle. From the disk to the clock, from the candle to the gong, and then to the other, how can it be?
Those who speak the Tao in the past world, or they are named by what they see, or they do not see and think, all seek the fault of the Tao.
But then the Taoist pawn can't ask for it? Su Zi said: "The Tao can be achieved but not sought.
What is Chi? Sun Wu said: "Those who are good at fighting will cause people, but not people."
Zi Xia said: "Hundreds of workers live in a house, so as to achieve their own things, and a gentleman learns to make his way." "Don't ask for it, do you think it's okay?
There are many people in the south, and the sun and water dwell, and they can wade at the age of seven, float at the age of ten, and float at the age of fifteen. How can a man who has no husband be in vain? There will be those who are sensitive to the way of water.
The sun and the water dwell, then the fifteenth and the way; If you don't know water, you will be strong when you see the boat. Therefore, the brave man of the north asks no one, and asks why it floats, and the river of words is tested, and there is no one who does not drown. Therefore, those who do not learn and seek the Tao are those who have not learned in the north.
In the past, the scholars were judged by sound and law, and the scholars were miscellaneous and did not aspire to the Tao; Today, the scholar uses the scriptures to win the scholar, and the scholar seeks the Tao but does not learn. Bohai Wu Junyan law, aspiring to scholars, Fang Qiu in the Ministry of Rites, made "Daily Parable" to tell him.
Philosophical Translations and CommentariesTranslationsPeople who are blind at birth do not know the sun in a disorderly way, but ask those who can see what the sun looks like. He was told, "The sun looks like a copper plate."
The blind man heard the sound of the brass plate when he knocked on it, and one day when he heard the bell, he took the bell that made the sound for the sun. He was told, "The light of the sun is like a candle."
The blind man touched the candle with his hand and knew its shape. One day, I touched a musical instrument shaped like a candle and thought it was the sun.
The difference between the sun and the bell and the bell is too great, but the man who is born blind does not know that there is a great difference between them, because he does not see it with his own eyes, but asks others for knowledge about the sun. Abstract truths are difficult to know, and this is more serious than the situation where the sun is difficult to know, and people who do not understand abstract truths are no different from blind people who are born without knowing the sun. Knowledgeable people tell him that even with clever parables and good inducements, they cannot make them better than the parables or teachings of the sun with copper plates and candles.
Background of creation.

The original text of "The Day Yu Said":
Those who are born do not look at the day of cultivation, and ask those who have eyes. Or it is said, "The shape of the sun is like a copper plate."
Buckle the plate and get its voice. He hears the bell every day, and thinks that the day is also. Or tell it:
The light of the sun is like a candle. "Draw the candle and get its shape. He thinks about it every day, and thinks it is a day.
Translation of "Day Yu Said":
a) A blind man who was born blind as soon as he came out of the tomb did not know the sun, and asked the person with eyes what the sun was like. Some of them told him, "The sun looks like a copper plate."
I knocked on the copper plate and heard its sound. One day (he) heard the bell and took the bell that made the sound for the sun. Some people told him:
The light of the sun is like a candle. "If you touch the candle with your hand, you will know its shape. One day, [he] figured out a musical instrument shaped like a candle and thought it was the sun.
The difference between the sun and the bells and the bells that are played is too far away, but the man who is born blind does not know the great difference between them, because he has not seen it with his own eyes but has sought knowledge of the sun from others.
