Forests are divided into the following five categories:

Legal basis: Forest Law of the People's Republic of China

Article 1 This Law is enacted in order to practice the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, to protect, cultivate and rationally utilize forest resources, to accelerate land greening, to ensure forest ecological security, to build an ecological civilization, and to realize the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.

Article 2 This Law shall apply to the protection, cultivation and utilization of forests and trees and the management of forests, woods and forest lands within the territory of the People's Republic of China.

Article 3 The protection, cultivation and utilization of forest resources shall respect nature, conform to nature, and adhere to the principles of ecological priority, protection priority, combination of conservation and sustainable development.
