The written test will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m
The IELTS written test sequence is Listening, Reading, and Writing.
The duration of the listening part of the test is 40 minutes. The first 30 minutes are the time to listen to the recording, and candidates are required to ask about 40 questions based on the content of the recording. The recording is divided into 4 sections, each section is called a section, each section lasts about 5 minutes, and there is 30 seconds in between each section for candidates to check their answers.
All recordings are recorded only once. At the end of the listening period, candidates have another 10 minutes to transcribe the content of the test paper onto a dedicated answer sheet. All exam papers are not allowed to be taken out of the examination room.
The duration of the Reading section is 60 minutes. It is composed of three independent essays (including about 10 types of questions), each essay is 800-1200 words long, and there are 38-42 questions in principle, but by far 40 questions are the most common in domestic examination rooms. If you see a technical term in the text, the article will provide a simple explanation.
Usually the first article is easier, and the third article is a little more difficult. The examiner will remind the candidate of the closing time at 30 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, and 5 minutes before the exam.
The duration of the writing part of the exam is 60 minutes. Candidates are required to write two essays, the first of which requires a minimum of 150 words (commonly known as a short essay) and the second essay requires a minimum of 250 words (commonly referred to as a large essay). The grading criteria for essays have been relatively stable since 2005 after some adjustments.
The first point of the first essay is task achievement, the second is coherence and cohesion, the third is lexical resource, and the fourth is grammatical range and accuracy. The first point of the second essay is the task response, and the other three points are exactly the same as the first one. When grading the writing section, the second passage is more useful, and candidates are advised to spend about twenty minutes on the first essay and about forty minutes on the second passage.
Immigration and academic writing differ only in the first short essay.
