History of the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

There are 9 schools in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, namely:

As of January 2019, there are nine biological research institutes in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. On November 1, 1949, the Chinese Academy of Sciences was established. In early February 1950, the Chinese Academy of Sciences decided to merge the Institute of Physics of the Academia Sinica and the Institute of Physics of the Beijing Research Institute to form the Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. On May 19, 1950, the Government Council appointed Yan Jici as the first director of the Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Lu Xueshan as the deputy director.

On August 15, 1950, the Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Applied Physics) was formally established, and the institute was located in Donghuangchenggen, Beijing. Due to the dispersion of personnel and equipment at that time, coupled with the inconvenience of transportation, the relocation work was not basically completed until June 1952.

On October 8, 1958, with the approval of the Council of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was renamed the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Physics) and moved to the current site of Zhongguancun.

In 1932, the Institute of Materia Medica, National Peking Research Institute, was established in Beijing.

In 1933, the Institute of Materia Medica, National Peking Research Institute, moved to Shanghai.

In 1950, the "Biochemistry Group" of the Institute of Physiology and Biochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the "Laboratory of Physiology and Physiology" of the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were established.

In 1958, the Institute of Physiology and Biochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences established itself as the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry.

In 1953, the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences established the "Laboratory of Physiology" independently and continued to use the Institute of Experimental Biology.

On July 3, 1999, eight life science research institutes, including the former Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry, Shanghai Institute of Cell Biology, Shanghai Institute of Physiology, Shanghai Institute of Brain Research, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology, Shanghai Institute of Entomology and Shanghai Bioengineering Research Center, were established by eight life science research institutes, including the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, through structural adjustment and institutional innovation. In November, the Institute of Neuroscience, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences was established.

In 2000, the Institute of Experimental Biology and the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry established the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

In October 2005, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Max Planck Society of Germany jointly established the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In November, the Institute of Health Sciences, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences was established.
