Chinese Core Journal (1992) Founded in January 1982, Geographical Research expanded to a bimonthly journal in 2001 and a monthly journal in 2010, and by the beginning of 2010, a total of about 2,400 abstracts of various **, reviews, work reports, book reviews, and degree ** were published. These achievements provide an open academic platform for promoting the research of the basic theories of China's geographical sciences and strengthening the in-depth research and development of China's geographical science community on major issues in China's economic construction and population, resources and environment. It provides a scientific and theoretical basis for making relevant decisions, developing the national economy, industrial structure layout and adjustment, rational utilization of resources, protecting the environment and ecology, and promoting sustainable development.

Over the past 50 years since its establishment, the institute has carried out innovative research in the interdisciplinary fields of geodesy and geophysics, environment and geography around solving major theoretical and key technical problems in basic surveying and mapping, aerospace and military surveying and mapping support, environmental and disaster monitoring, and national large-scale engineering construction in national economic construction and national defense construction, and has achieved a series of research results with important influence at home and abroad, forming profound academic accumulation and unique disciplinary characteristics. It has made pioneering contributions to the establishment and development of the national surveying and mapping discipline.
The institute initiated and participated in the completion of the construction of the first generation of national gravity network, national astronomical geodetic network, national astronomical gravity level network, and national astronomical basic point network, which provided important surveying and mapping support for China's first artificial satellite to the sky and the first long-range missile launch, and was commended and commended by the Communist Party of China's first, first and first military commissions; The measurement data processing theory of quasi-stable adjustment and robustness estimation is proposed. He developed the approximation theory of the earth's gravity field and the high-altitude assignment model of the gravity field, and won two National Natural Science Awards. Independently developed China's first marine gravimeter, the accuracy of which has reached the same international level. In the interdisciplinary field of geodesy and environmental science, he has carried out applied basic research on flood disaster prevention, wetland protection, water environment management, and the ecological and environmental impact of large-scale water conservancy projects, and put forward a number of suggestions that have been adopted by the state and Hubei Province, which have produced good ecological, economic and social benefits, and have distinctive regional characteristics.
Since the restoration and reconstruction of the institute in 1978, it has presided over or participated in a number of major national scientific and technological infrastructure construction projects, major scientific engineering projects, national research plans, support plans, national and national natural science committees, innovation groups, outstanding young people, key and major projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and local enterprise projects. He has won more than 100 national, provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. He has published more than 3,000 academic articles and more than 80 monographs at home and abroad.
More than 80 patents have been authorized, and more than 10 software copyrights have been registered. (Data as of December 2015).
At present, the institute is mainly engaged in the research of important scientific issues related to geodesy, geophysics and environmental science, including the local and overall movement of the earth, the interaction of the earth's internal structure and sphere, the mass distribution and migration of the earth system, the application of geodetic in space technology and national large-scale engineering construction, environmental and disaster monitoring and evaluation in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and wetland evolution and restoration. At present, the institute has "State Key Laboratory of Geodesy and Geodynamics", "Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Environment and Disaster Monitoring and Assessment", "Experimental Station of Dynamic Geodesy Center" and "Xiaogang Wetland Ecological Station of Jianghan Plain". Cooperate with universities and brother research institutes to establish the "National GPS Engineering Center" and other institutions.
It has world-class high-precision observation equipment, including all kinds of land absolute and relative gravimeters, marine gravimeters, human health laser rangefinders, GPS receivers, atomic frequency standard systems, remote sensing image processing and geographic information systems, etc.
