Zhao Yijiong, also known as Helin, is a native of Qingyan, Huaxi, Guiyang. In the fifth year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1879), he became a jinshi in the twelfth year (1886), participated in the court examination (palace examination) and won the first place, becoming the first person in Guizhou Province to win the first place in the world. In the fourteenth year (1888), he served as the deputy examiner of the Sichuan Township Examination.
In the seventeenth year (1891), he was appointed as the governor of Guangxi. In the twenty-first year (1895) he served as the same examiner. In the twenty-sixth year (1900), Ding's mother returned to her hometown and lectured at Guiyang Ancient Academy.
He entered Beijing and returned to Qingyan to give lectures. In August of the thirty-third year (1907), he died of illness and was buried on the mountain near the Qingyan Bow Village.

In the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu (1900), after the death of Zhao Yijiong's mother Zhao Santai Chen, Ding Wei returned to his hometown to keep filial piety for three years, and lectured in the ancient academy.
After the expiration of the period, he entered Beijing in the 29th year of Guangxu (1903) and was reinstated, and then resigned and returned to his hometown to lecture in Qingyan because of the difficulty of his career. In August of the 32nd year of Guangxu (1906), Zhao Yijiong died of illness at Qingyan's home at the age of 49.
