First step 1: Make sure that both computers have the tethering center enabled. This is shown in the figure below.

If you still don't, go to Control Panel - System & Security > Firewall > Advanced Settings on the left.

Steps to share files with one XP and one Win8:

1. All clients are located in the same network segment, such as in the network segment (assuming that the router IP is yes);

6.Open My Computer - Tools Options - Folder Options - View - Remove the hook in front of using simple file sharing and OK.

7.Turn off the firewall.

The network share won't be turned on because it's not set up in the right way. Here's how:

1. Both computers are connected to the same router.

2. Right-click on the desktop network --- properties --- change the advanced sharing settings.

3. Select Public Network --- select the following options: Enable Network Discovery--- Start File and Printer Sharing--- Enable Sharing So that users who can access the network can read and write files in public folders (can not be selected) - Turn off password protection sharing (other options use the default).

4. Save and confirm.

5. Select the folder or drive letter that needs to be shared, and right-click - Properties.

6. Open the Security tab - select - Add - everyone.

7. Open the Share tab--- select Share --- pop-up dialog box --- add "guest"--sharing.

8. Select Advanced Sharing --Select Share this file --OK.

9. Select Advanced Sharing -- Select Share this file -- Select Permissions -- Add Everyone.

10. Double-click on another computer to open the network, and the folder or drive letter you just shared will appear.

Note: To prevent accidental errors, turn off the firewalls on both computers.
