Ophelia is a tragic character in Hamlet, a symbol of something beautiful and vulnerable. Her lover killed her father, and the darkness of the royal family made the innocent girl collapse, and finally chose death.

Elisabeth Shidal, who used to model for Millais's Ophelia. Sidar was a slender girl with chestnut hair, her face was often flushed with lung disease, and her delicate constitution was pitiful. Rossetti fell in love with her artistically inspired weakness, but because Rossetti's financial situation and Sidal's health were equally poor, they remained in a Gothic spiritual love affair without getting married.

In the process, Rossetti fell in love with another model of the Brotherhood, Jeanne Portini, who was healthier and more beautiful than Sidal. He was entangled in his feelings for the two girls, and it was not until Jenny married his henchman William Morris (1834-1896) that Rossetti finally married Sidal. His love affair with Jenny left a great shadow on Sidar's heart, causing her to become depressed after her marriage, and her mental anguish combined with illness caused her to commit suicide by swallowing an overdose of opium in the third year of her marriage.

Rossetti's death was traumatized so much that on the day she was retired, Rossetti put all the poems he had written for her in a coffin, and a few years later, he wanted to rewrite them from memory and publish them. Later, under the persuasion of relatives and friends, he agreed to take out the manuscript of the poem in the coffin.
