In the sixties and seventies, DNC was very different, it began to focus on the information integration of the workshop, centralized monitoring and decentralized control of the basic operations such as production planning, technical preparation, and processing operations in the workshop, and assigned the production tasks to each processing unit through the local area network, and made the information exchange with each other. For logistics and other systems, it can be expanded when conditions are ripe, which can be applied to the existing production environment, improve productivity, and save costs.

As shown in the figure above, the main components of the DNC system are: computer and peripheral storage devices, communication interfaces, machine tools and machine tool controllers. The data is managed by a computer, which retrieves the part program from the large memory and transmits it to the machine.

The flow of information is then controlled in both directions, and the information is distributed among multiple computers so that each machine controller can complete its own operation. Finally, the machine feedback is monitored and processed by a computer. Among them, solving the information exchange and interconnection between computers and CNC machine tools is the core problem of DNC.

The main difference between it and FMS (Flexible Manufacturing System) is that there is no automated logistics transportation system, so it is low cost and easy to implement. Since it can realize the direct loading and flexible storage of NC (numerical control) programs through a computer network, it can:
